Backfield Woodworking Co. offers a collection of handcrafted furniture and homeware, and custom commissioned pieces. Using natural hardwood, my mission is to build functional and durable pieces that you can connect with and that fit your space perfectly.
Where it started.
My passion for woodworking was brought to life when my wife and I purchased our first home. Rather than buying furniture from big box stores destined for a landfill, we began building our own custom pieces. After being encouraged by her to share my passion, and with the support of friends and family, Backfield Woodworking Co. was created.
Woodworking has always been an interest and a passion of mine. Something that I picked up from my grandfather who was a carpenter, and my dad who is a millwright by trade and also a skilled woodworker.
Growing up, our town was surrounded by farm lands and forests. During the summers my friends and I would spend our days exploring the hills and fields behind our neighbourhood, building forts from scrap 2×4 and plywood thrown away from a nearby farmer. We would call it the Backfield.
That area continued to shrink as more homes and community centres were built. I cherish those days and that inspires me to preserve some of that natural beauty through this craft.
Backfield Woodworking Co. was born from that inspiration and its goal is simple: to use natural and responsibly sourced materials to build pieces that people connect with.

Wood has the ability to transform spaces unlike any other natural material. Its grain and colour are unique and through woodworking it can become something generational, functional and stylish.
Wood is considered a green product because of its renewable and sustainable nature, and as a cherished resource for not only building but for the health of our planet, I’m committed to ensuring that the materials used for my products are locally and responsibly sourced and more importantly, replenished.
